Dream House Alphabet: H

H is for...Hardwood Floors (of course).
Okay, if budget was no option, I'd probably opt for hardwood floors laid in a herringbone pattern in my dream house. Herringbone Hardwood for the double win double H.

Is it too busy though? Too formal? Maybe.
More realistically, I'd love a house with some old, original hardwoods that I could refinish into perfection with character and charm (not me...the floors. I'm quite sure I'd tackle this project with something far from charm).

H was a pretty obvious choice for me. I feel like hardwood floors are on pretty much everyone's must have list these days, but there are so many options to choose from, including type of wood and finish. I like medium tones, like those pictured above. Medium tones are traditional, classic and timeless.

Light tones can really lighten up a space (duh), and are common in Scandinavian design. They work beautifully with darker toned furniture, you don't have to worry about matching!

Dark Hardwoods (think espresso) are more modern and contemporary, but I've heard they show dust very easily. Does anyone have any input on that?

What tone do you like best? And as always, I'd love to hear what your dream house 'H' is!

ps. I'm sorry about all of the unknown sources in this post, I've had some of them saved since before I was a blogger and thought to save the links! Do forgive me loves.

Tiffany, we have had light. dark and medium shades of hardwoods. The Bucket List House has a soft light shade, not bleached! It is the easiest to keep looking good. When we added an animal skin rug, it had to be very dark for contrast, if I had the darker woods, I could have gone with a gorgeous white skin rug. That's the only regret I have had so far!!

These hardwood floors are beautiful. They would be in my list too! I especially love the herringbone. Wood floors are just so much better than wall to wall carpet....and I love you can use area rugs in certain areas. best option

I am going to have to stick with your "H". herringbone hardwoods are to die for!

Perfect choice for H! I definitely enjoy all shades of hardwood, esp. since the individual home and room usually dictate what fits best. Personally though I think my favorite is the dark. It just looks so sleek. It's the perfect mix of the modern and the traditional in my opinion.

LOVE the herringbone! If only I was a millionaire I would have them installed in my own house. Good choice! As for color, I go for a middle of the road, too dark and it shows every scratch and piece of dirt, too light and I feel like I live in an IKEA. :)

Those are gorgeous floors! I miss having hardwood floors, but if and when I get my dream home, I can't wait to have hand scraped wood floors!

I love the herringbone floors! Those are just gorgeous! We have dark hardwood floors and they do show dust a little more but for me that is okay!. With two kids crawling around on the floor I would prefer to know its dirty and clean it then not notice the dirt.
