I love white mantels, I love old brick surrounds, I love fireplaces that have been painted the usual black, white or grey. We've seen these time and time again, and for good reason...classics are classic after all. But, if you're looking to make a big impact with your fireplace and really make it the focal point of the room, why not have some fun with paint?
I came across this picture the other day and was instantly smitten:
^This shot is from the studio of Regas, NY. I could do without the faux fire, although it is sort of crafty in cute, but I am in love with that bright, unexpected jolt of yellow.

Fern & Feather has my heart.
If you just can't commit to this look (come on, it's just paint!), I also love this idea of painting your fireplace screen in a color that pops!
Could you, would you?

The bright punch of color is so much more fun!
I've been following you for some time now and you know I say this lightly when I answer your questions; no and no. Not saying they aren't fun or add something to a space, but for me and my traditional preferences they wouldn't work. I read on another blog this morning that the only "do not" of design is "do not do what you don't love". I am sure many out there love these! Have a great day! -Tonya
these are fun! we don't have a full fireplace surround, but just a mantle. since it's smaller, i'd love to experiment by adding some color to it!

If the wood was still intact I don't think I could cover it up but I really like the idea of a bright screen!
these are so fun!! I don't know that I could commit but I think they are beautiful and happy.
that gallery wall is pretty perfect!
I am especially loving the second fireplace! What's great is that you can take the risk and if you just don't like it...paint over it!
I've been a little MIA!! Haha love love the yellow and coral. Gorgeous!!!

So fun! Although I don't think I'd have the guts to change the color of my new fireplace, so I'd def go with the screen! Maybe pink.
Something I haven't considered, but it pays off in a big way!

I love that yellow fireplace and the fake fire in it is quirky and fun!
LOVE the yellow one!
Love reading your blogsite for renovation inspiration. Thanks.
You could, indeed, opt for more eye-catching fireplaces with bold colors rather than the usual black, white, or gray. By the way, while it is good to maintain the appearance, making sure that both the fireplace and the chimney are regularly cleaned and maintained is as important, if not more. Thank you for these inspirations!
