Painting out the Trim

If there is one trend I heard being repeated over and over during the talks at IDS this year, it's that the big thing right now is to paint the trim to match the walls.

How do you all feel about this look? I'll admit, at first I didn't like it, but it's growing on me. I especially like it in rooms with dark walls like the last two photos, where white trim would be too harsh of a contrast and really ruin the moodiness of the space. Weigh in on your thoughts in the comments!

I love the way it looks when the room is painted an interesting color -- like the ones that you have shared today! Wonderful!

I like it a lot if there is substantial moulding, like in the pictures you showed. Otherwise I think it just looks flat.

I love this look!!! In fact, if you haven't already read it on my blog, I will be painting the walls and trim in my dining room the same colour - Farrow & Ball's Hague Blue. I agree with you - this look is much better when done in darker hues. I also agree with Elizabeth above - also looks better with substantial moulding.

I loooove the look but on a practical side, I wonder how it affects the retail value of a house?

I would definitely do it in my own home, but I could see someone with more traditional taste not liking it for themselves.

I love the look and like the others ...especially in dark shades.
I also have to add, as mentioned above, that if you plan on selling your home, you might consider changing the trim back to white. It's amazing how 90% of the buyers want very traditional features in their homes.

I've been thinking about that lately too and like it more and more. I used to be a total all white trim kinda girl but I think I'm changing!

Definitely getting in to that look. Gives classic spaces a modern look. Sorry about your cat!
