Watercolour Wednesday: Moody and Mirrored

Another watercolour from my rendering class last term, practicing again from "Interior Design Illustrated: Marker and Watercolor Techniques" by Christina M. Scalise. We were experimenting with using large, abstract brushwork. I love the dramatic aesthetic of this one!
Ps. Tomorrow I'm going to the media preview for Chapters/Indigo! Can't wait to see some of my fellow Toronto bloggers there!

K.R.T. Home (and a favour pretty please!)

I've said it time and time again. If there is one thing that keeps me blogging, it's the amazing community of lovely bloggers I've met here who act as constant support, mentors and friends.
One such amazing person is Kristen of Just a Girl and her Little Dog who has been with me since I first started my blog!
Now it's time for me to pay it forward to this talented lady with an eye for vintage goodness you won't want to miss. I'm so proud of Kristen for the launch of her new online shop K.R.T. Home. The collection she has put together is amazing. I wish I had more room so I could scoop up every.single.piece!
I've hand picked some of my favourites below. Hurry before they're gone!
^I can't handle the pretty. Pint sized and perfect for a nursery.
It also comes in navy velvet...I die.
^ This marble and glass cheese dome would make a perfect hostess gift. Cheese is my favourite so I'm biased.
^Isn't little Lola the perfect mascot?

Congratulations Kristen! I just know it's going to be a HUGE success.
Be sure to visit K.R.T. Home.

Lastly, I'm asking for a favour from all of you. This weekend I was nominated for a 'top ten interior design blogs' list and voting is open for favourites! If you could head on over HERE and cast a vote my way I would love you forever (already do though). Thank you SO much in advance.

Favourite Furniture Fridays: LiveLaughDecorate

Hi peeps, I'm Nicole from LiveLaughDecorate and I'm thrilled as punch to be chillin here with Tiffany this morning. Let's dish shall we? Among my favorite pieces of furniture is this little Louis XV Salon chair that now holds court in my office.
This little gem once had a twin. Seven years ago, I rescued the two from a guaranteed trip to the trash. Battered, bruised and broken, they were the casualties of a bitter divorce of a dear friend. I happily took custody, knowing right away they could be things of real beauty (so, so sorry that I have no before photos).
At the time, I had a very contemporary space but I didn't care and just knew the chairs would fit in somehow. I fell in love with the purple fabric combo on a trip to the fabric store. Again, there was no purple to speak of in my condo but I didn't care. Purple it would be. I had the frames painted white for additional drama and two new beauties were born. Alas, I sold one to a client a few years ago because it blended perfectly with the bedroom I'd designed for her daughter.
The other has been the perfect pop of color and pizazz to my home office and I happily hold court in it every day.

That's all folks. Thanks so much Tiffany for allowing me to reminisce about one of my favorite pieces. Brought back so many memories!
Thanks so much for sharing Nicole! I've always wanted a Louis chair! Yours is so fun! Happy weekend :)

Wednesday's Doodles # 3

I love simple glass pendants, colorful dishes, pops of red, and an eclectic mix of chairs. This little breakfast nook embodies all of those things.

Favourite Furniture Fridays: The Louis Chair

Lately I've been featuring alot of mid-century modern furniture, such as the Eames Lounge, the Tulip Table and Danish Teak Credenzas. Today, I'm switching focus to the classic and traditional Louis Chair. Literally named for Louis XV and Louis XVI, 18th Century French Kings, this chair definitely gives off a regal vibe. There are many different styles of the chair, attributable to differing King Louis. The most notable differences is the shape of the back. My personal favourite is the medallion (aka round) back. Absolutely stunning, but simple and understated enough to blend seamlessly with most decor styles.

^ Designer Samantha Pynn cleverly adds extra seating to this living room with a pair of Louis chairs in front of the glass doors. They are delicate enough to feel like they aren't a major view blocker, and light enough to move for easy access to the outdoor space.

If these looks are a little bit too traditional for your taste, you can have the chair reupholstered in a trendy and contemporary fabric, like this zebra example:

OR for an even more modern look, you could consider the Louis ghost chair.

The Louis ghost armchair was designed in 2002 by Philippe Starck for Kartell, and perfectly combines historic style and modern aesthetics. Plus, they're stackable, and now available in a variety of tints. Genious!

So which one do you prefer? The traditional? The modern? Neither? Or BOTH (like me)!?
Oh and a fair warning! If you get a ghost chair, it really does look like it vanishes sometimes. Kind of haunting, but in a good way.
