Ceramic Birdies.

Recently, the hilarious Lindsay of Sadie + Stella did a post on her love of Staffordshire Dogs, you know, those chic little ceramic pooch figurines that have been popping up in interior design?

While I love the ceramic dogs, I have a different figurine on my lust list:
A ceramic Parrot/Bird figurine!
Honestly they are too good:

The first three images are from Christine Dovey's home, which I continue to drool over on a daily basis. The final image from the apartment of Megan Close!
True story, when I was young I had a pet budgie bird named Mikey.
There is a picture of us together where he seems to be attempting to nibble my eye out. Heartwarming moment....it's at my parents house but I'll share it soon.

What ceramic pet would YOU choose?

Design that Stands the Test of Time

Trends are inescapable. As a social media driven society, we have consistent exposure to these fads that are pretty, fun, popular, and well received. But for me, really good design is about incorporating those trends in a timeless way... in a way that won't need to be revisited or redecorated in a few months, or even a few years.

When I was browsing the current fall decorating issue of Style at Home Magazine, I was stopped in my tracks by this home:
So beautiful, and SO current. The zebra print, the lucite and butterfly artwork, the grasscloth wall coverings, the use of the color coral, the chippendale chairs, the polka dotted seat cushions - All of it embodies the major design trends of today.

And yet, when I read the article, I couldn't believe that this room was designed 30 years ago and has been unaltered since. That is the talent of the late and iconic designer Ray Staples, who decorated this room in the eighties.

The timeless beauty of this space and the careful and imaginative forethought and talent of Staples has left me truly awe inspired.  Her legacy lives on through her works that withstand the test of time.

Orange You Glad I Changed my Mind?

My friend Rachel is going to love this post. While it has always been her favourite colour, I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I have never been a huge fan of orange. BUT THEN Pantone named Tangerine Tango as the 'it' color of 2012 and suddenly I was seeing orange everywhere...and surprisingly, I didn't hate it. In fact...I was kind of loving it. I was particularly head over heels in the June issue of Style at Home magazine when I came across Marlie Waks's condo. Her living room and bedroom, splashed with fun orange accents, is invigorating, girly, fun and fresh.
Isn't it gorgeous? The hot pink with the bright orange is the ultimate combo. It reminds me of grapefruit and summer and fancy drinks and all things bright and happy.

So, orange you glad I changed my mind about this hue? I have interior design to thank for keeping my mind open, for inspiring me, and for introducing me to new looks and ideas everyday.
Are YOU a fan? How would you incorporate it into your house?

I Love This Room

The weekend is coming to a close, so to cheer us all up I thought I'd post one of my favourite rooms. You may have already seen it, (it was the June 2011 cover of Canada's Style at Home magazine), but I still can't get enough! It's the living room of the magazine's contributing design editor Christine Hanlon. I love the space for its sunny, bright and refreshing vibe. Also, the colour pallet is amazing (I want a yellow and grey wedding scheme - one day).

Doesn't that bamboo table just steal the whole show? It's jaw droppingly gorgeous and accentuates the brass on the lighting fixtures. Also, the geometric pattern on the couches is just like my blog's background! How apropro.

Here are a few similar items to achieve this look in your own space:

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and enjoyed this fresh room as much as I do!
