Recently, I had brunch with a friend who is looking into buying her first home. Number one on her list is a kitchen painted bright yellow, and she asked me whether I liked the idea or not.
Some inspirational images of yellow kitchens:
^ These yellow stools, tulips and bowl of lemons really make a bright impact in this classic white space.
^Once again, the white keeps this kitchen so crisp and allows the yellow to shine. A yellow oven is fearless!
^ I think that this is my favourite! Why not paint the island yellow rather than the walls? It's such a show stopper in an otherwise all white space.
Here are my thoughts:
1) Why not? Paint is a good place to experiment if you aren't afraid of color because its easy and inexpensive to change.
2) Because yellow is so bright and cheery, I recommend it with white cabinets. White will keep it crisp and fresh.
3) There are great ways to bring yellow into the kitchen without painting the walls.
I am a firm believer that using an accent colour in strategic ways can make an even greater impact than simply slapping paint on the walls.

Would you do a yellow kitchen? I think its so fun!

I love me some yellow!
I love yellow! I don't think I could do the kitchen in yellow, but I do love accents of it. That yellow island is so fun!
Yellow is the first color that comes to mind when I think of kitchen color accents! I love that coral bowl you picked out! Happy New Year Tiffany! Hope it was great :).

Love yellow! And that muted yellow on the island is perfection!! :)
I love your tips- I don't think I could do it on the walls, but maybe on the island or with pops of yellow through accessories and art?
I think others have said the same thing; bright yellow touches-yes, bright yellow walls..not so sure. Only one way to find out. - Tonya
such a cheery color! I like it and fresh too. My entry hall is yellow and makes me so happy when I come in.
Gosh, I really like the first one, very beautiful. Yellow is a happy color :)
Such a scary color for walls. I've seen some go well and some go really wrong. All the examples here are great. Kind of loving the idea of colored island. So unexpected.
I used to want a mustard yellow island via Sarah Richardson Farm House. Thankfully, my husband doesn't always go with my every whim, although I do still like the idea of it
Totally agree. All of those kitchens read as yellow even though the yellow is just used in an accent way.
My kitchen & living room are yellow - and I hate it. (I rent so I don't have much say) ... but I LOVE the light colored walls/furniture and the random burst of yellow throughout that you have found. Great finds! :-)
Happy 2013!
No one hates yellow! (Except babies don't love it, now that I think about it!) I adore pops of this fresh hue in any room!
Funny you should ask. I have in my possession 8 rolls of yellow trellis wallpaper waiting to go on my kitchen walls. I'm beyond excited! Happy New Year!

Yellow is a tricky one. Agree with you that it will be best balanced with some white cabinets. Love too the idea of the yellow painted island. That would be a thing of major beauty.
yellow is one of my favorite colors! Have a great 2013 Tiff and looking forward to following you!

I'm leaning more towards the pop of bright yellow accessories or small painted hues rather than painting an entire main room. If it were a hall closet or nursery, it might be different. I agree with you on that last picture with the painted island- how cool and chic is that!?

I painted our kitchen and (cathedral-ceilinged) entryway/breakfast area Farrow & Ball's Dayroom Yellow. Cabinets and trim are white. It is such a happy color to walk in to.
I completely agree with your idea about using bright yellow accents around the kitchen instead of just putting it on the walls. It looks so much more noticeable and pretty that way. I love all these examples too!
Tiffany . . i love your blog. i am also an interior design student from ireland and i get so much inspiration from your blog. what do you use though to make your display boards at the end of your post ? like the one here with the yellow kitchen items ?
